Process

My treatment process is unique to each individual and has been refined through decades of experience. The first few sessions focus on identifying challenges and establishing goals. I encourage people to be curious and non-judgmental about their thoughts, feelings and behaviors. An accepting attitude helps one recognize and accept thoughts and feelings that may be difficult. Mindfulness allows a person to change their relationship with their thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations. Initially intense and overwhelming feelings can be observed with stillness and strength. We work together to challenge personal narratives that contain signif icant distortions. In this way, one develops the skill to gain emotional calm and to resist negative reactive behaviors such as avoidance of conflict or self-injurious behavior. This allows a person to make choices that are empowering and reflective of their values.
